US Restaurant Portions Are Much Bigger Than the UK
One of the first things UK travellers notice in Florida restaurants is the portion sizes — they’re huge. Even a standard meal can be the size of a UK large, and sides are often included automatically. It’s completely normal not to finish everything, and nobody will judge you for leaving food or taking it home.
Here’s what helps:
- Expect large mains — even “regular” dishes can be very filling
- Sharing is totally acceptable — many families split appetisers or desserts
- Ask for a takeaway box — leftovers are normal and great for villa lunches
- Check the sides included — meals often come with fries, salad, or bread by default
- Don’t be afraid to order small — appetisers or kids’ meals can be plenty for lighter eaters
Once you get used to the sizing, US restaurants feel generous, great value, and perfect for sharing — just don’t feel pressured to clear your plate.
