Get in Line Before Closing Time and You Will Ride
One of the best-kept secrets of Orlando theme parks like Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando is the "closing time rule." Many visitors assume that when the park officially closes, the rides shut down immediately. Fortunately, this is not the case!
As long as you are physically standing in the queue even one minute before the official park closing time, you will be allowed to ride. Park staff will not turn you away, and they will keep the attraction running until the very last person in line has had their turn (unless the ride experiences a rare technical breakdown).
This strategy is highly recommended for several reasons:
- Shorter actual wait times: Parks often inflate the posted wait times near closing to discourage guests from joining. A posted 60-minute wait might actually only take 30 minutes.
- Continuous movement: Once the park closes, virtual queues and Express/Lightning Lane entries stop. This means the staff can focus entirely on the standby line, making the queue move much faster.
- Maximise your day: Saving the most popular headliner rides—like Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance or Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure—for the very end of the night frees up your precious daytime hours for other attractions.
So, do not head for the exit when the clock winds down. Head straight to your favourite ride and jump in line for one final, magical experience!
