Tipping is a normal part of life in Florida, and knowing what to expect makes eating out much smoother. In sit‑down restaurants with table service, the standard tip is around 20% of the pre‑tax total. Service staff rely heavily on tips, so this is considered the norm rather than a bonus.

At self‑service or counter‑service places, tipping is completely optional. You’ll often see a screen suggesting amounts, but you’re not expected to tip unless you genuinely want to. For takeaway, coffee shops, or quick‑service spots, most visitors either skip it or leave a small amount.

To make things easier, many restaurants print suggested tip amounts at the bottom of the bill — usually 18%, 20%, and 22%. You can choose one of those or write in your own amount. If you’re paying by card, you’ll add the tip before signing the receipt; if you’re paying by phone, the app will prompt you.
